Background and Experience
Cliff Seretan,MS, LMT (Lic. No. 20017) graduated with top grades in an Eastern modality program from the Oregon School of Massage. He also received top scores in the multi-state MBLEx (Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam) and the State of Oregon's rigorous practical examination. Cliff mentions his level of accomplishment, because as he says, “I would like the practitioner I see to know more than 70% of what might be affecting me.”
Cliff has many years of experience in several work settings. After receiving a Masters in Science Degree from Stony Brook University, he provided management solutions for governmental entities and private companies. Cliff also has experience as an FAA Certified Flight Instructor, Aikidoka, Japanese woodworker, court mediator and has taught Information Technology in developing countries.
Coming from a multi-generational medical family, he has always maintained close proximity to health care providers. Cliff's family practiced medicine the old fashioned way by giving each patient the time they needed to heal their spirit as well as their body. Office visits resembled a gathering of friends and family more than a clinical, sterile environment.
When it came his turn to enter the profession, the practice of medicine had changed, along with modern society, to fast paced and business oriented. Cliff was enamored with the medical model he grew up with and thus pursued another career direction, but always with the human connection in mind.
Your comfort and care are Cliff's primary objective; he wants to do his utmost to make the session meet the client's wellness expectations.
Philosophy
Cliff's study of massage and bodywork has focused on mixed modalities with an emphasis on Eastern modalities, including Shiatsu, Acupressure and understanding the nature of the Chinese meridians, some techniques dating from 3000 BCE. Western techniques, such as myofascial release, are primarily used for therapeutic massage on neuro-muscular adhesions.
Cliff's philosophy of massage is to use his expertise to provide the client with information and care to ensure each session is uniquely suited to the immediate bodywork needs as well as providing a long term wellness plan tailored to the client. He believes no two clients are alike and no two sessions are the same. Cliff wants the client to be the center of the universe during their session and for each session to precisely address their needs.
Cliff's training and practice of his art are such that loose fitting clothing is typically worn throughout the bodywork session. Although trained in traditional Swedish massage, in which the client disrobes, it is not necessary in the majority of cases. As in all legitimate massage, the client always disrobes to their comfort level and is draped with the exception of the area receiving bodywork.
Personal
Cliff lives in Lake Oswego, Oregon with his wife and daughter. He strives to perfect his bodywork, creates artistic pieces of woodwork, hikes, bikes, camps and enjoys Yoga and Aikido.
